Activities

In the winter, numerous activities include: snow-skiing, snowboarding, hiking, snow-shoeing, tobogganing, sledding, horse-carriage rides, ice skating, outdoor bonfires and concerts. In addition, during the holidays fireworks displays and ski shows with lit torches light up the landscape.

In the summer, with over 350km of hiking paths, spectacular vistas, waterfalls, wildlife and mountain wild flowers can be viewed throughout the mountains. Saas Fee has a wide variety of activities for both old and young. Summer snow-skiing and snowboarding on the glaciers is the best Europe has to offer. Other activities include: mountain biking, fishing, music concerts, horseback riding, rock climbing, mini-golf. An indoor sports complex facility includes tennis courts and an Olympic size swimming pool. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, good weather is virtually guaranteed in Saas Fee, the sunniest region of Switzerland.

Events

The Saas Valley stages a wide range of events in both summer and winter.

In winter the emphasis is more on sports events. The covered car-park s converted into a stage for ice-climbers competing in the "Ice-Climbing World Cup" in January every year. The Mittelallalin open downhill races draw a large crowd of sports enthusiasts every April to see out the season. There are also less grandiose events - such as hiking by the light of flaming torches or a hearty fondue at a romantic mountain hut.

The musical highlights o the summer months are the International Alpine Music Festival and the classical Musica Romantica festival in Saas Fee.

Typical of the summer in the mountains are folklore and traditional events. There are, for example, summer concerts with costume and dance, alphorns, yodeling and music every week.
